Vintage Fashion of English Week

English department has a unique program, it is English Week which is held by HMJ of English department. English week provides several competitions. Those are storytelling, news casting, alliance quest, debate competition and speech competition. Every class should point someone as a representative from their class in each competition there. Many students participate in this program especially for freshmen because they are obligated to join it.
English Week program has different theme each year, and vintage theme was chosen for this year. Some students expressed their taste of fashion for this theme and British fashion was the icon of their fashion since 60s until 90s.
In the first day of English Week, I saw a student that was wearing a black suit and the brown cowboy hat. He was wearing black glasses too. Another one was wearing a grey coat and a bowtie adhered around his neck. Besides, the girls were wearing a vintage dress. I saw them happily because there were many bright color clothes that they mixed from up to toe. The details were very important such as brown high heels, flat shoes, a golden necklace and so did the like that the girls wore at that time. It was looked like a carnival vintage fashion. Further, I was like throwing back into the previous age before twentieth century. Before I came to Joglo, where the competition held, to support our friends there I was walking on the red carpet. It was not only me who walked there, but also every student was allowed to pass there.
The atmosphere was very attractive. The audience was yelling all the time. They yelled happily to enliven the program. One of my friends came and asked to take some pictures with a mascot of program. She was totally got dressed very well. She was wearing a dark green coat, a black skirt and a small hat adhered in her left-side of her head. She used pink lipstick too. When we came closer to her, I was thinking that she could be weird. She has big eyes. If she smiled, she might be smiling widely as a clown usually does. So I talked to my friend that I was very scared. I apologized to her that I was being a coward. So I kept away from that mascot. I watched my friends took a picture with her from far away and I envied her because she has a good memory in this English Week program. I had been speaking to myself that I should be brave to defeat my scared. No one could defeat it except me, myself.
In the next day, the sun was enlightening the sky and it was very bright day. I had already decided to be brave to take a picture or photo with that mascot. When I arrived at Campus, I did not see her anymore. So I tried to look for her from T8 building until Joglo. Then, the result was none, so I gave up directly. In the last day, there was a special thing. Students of English Department gathered in the first floor of T4 building and made two lines there. Every two lines were showed from different class. So there were many two lines there. All of them were wearing a costume. After that, each of two lines was walking to Joglo on the red carpet. When it was my class turn, I tried to act casually even I was little bit nervous. I did not even forget with my mission that day to take a picture with a mascot.
On the way of Joglo, I saw her. She was wearing a different clothes and it was unique too. I came near her slowly with my friends. I had already Goosebumps then. I could not have imagined how she smiled to me. It might be a spooky smile like a Joker has, Batman’s enemy, in the knight rider movie. I thought she was pretty that scary but I was wrong. She was friendly like others. It was just her costume which seemed weird but unique at the same time. I accosted her and asked, “Can I take a photo with you?” She was directly answered, “Sure”.
We took a photo then. She was standing next to me. When she smiled, I saw that she really had a wide mouth. I was lucky because she was not using lipstick. So I just got little bit scared. I believed that it might be over soon.
I was happy for myself then because my mission was already success. In spite of that, the English Program was quiet fun. Besides, I knew that there were many kinds of people, who got dressed nicely there and I could not judge them directly as I want because He or she may be different person from what I have thought before.
